My first impression of Absolute Poker was that it is very similar to Poker Stars [review]. From the uploadable images used as avatars to the sounds it has that look and feel that Stars players will be comfortable with. Using Stars as a model for an online poker site is not a bad idea.
There is nothing new about the tournament lobby at Absolute. It's the standard single page per category layout found at almost all other online poker rooms. The tournament pages are divided into tournament types, Sit N Go, Multi, Special, and Private. Poker Tounament Lobby The cash games are also the familiar layout. The Hold'Em page for example shows all the Hold'Em cash games (real and play money). You get to see not only the stakes, but the number of players and waiters, hands per minute, average pot, and players per flop. A couple things of note are the six player tables and the full size tables are only nine players (seven for Stud), rather than the 10 player tables found at many other online poker sites. Look closely at the table statistics in the image below and you should notice low percentage of players per flop as well as high hand per minute rates. What this means is fast tight (well, maybe not real tight, but tighter than many) poker, especially on the six player tables.

If you're the kind of player who likes wild loose games with lots of fish then Empire Poker [review] or Pacific Poker [review] may be a better choice for you.

Absolute features the vanilla set of cash games, Hold’Em, Omaha, and Stud. In Hold’Em you’ll find good action up to the $5/$10 stakes. There is action at higher levels, but only a few tables are active. In Omaha the action is primarily at the $10 NL tables, while in Omaha H/L there is some action at $1/$2. In Stud and Stud H/L you won’t find much action except for a few games going here and there.

The table itself, at 800x600, is bigger than most. This is nice for some, but those who like to play multiple tables my find it a little inconvenient if using only one monitor. Hold'Em Poker Table. Seems the other players are in a little trouble. Molly’s quad sevens are going to take this pot. After the showdown they probably wished that they had raised preflop to drive out 78 offsuit You can see from the screenshot above that the table layout is excellent. Lots of elbow room with only 9 player chairs at the table, however this makes it a little harder to sneak a peek at your neighbor’s hole cards. The six player tables have the same layout except that at least three chairs will always be empty. To see your statistics, you click on the stats tab above the chat window, but you will have to use the scroll bar to see everything. All the statistics are there, but this is not as nice as many online poker rooms which pop up a small window with all the statistics visible at the same time.
If you’re looking for fast paced poker with solid play Absolute is a very good choice.
