If you hevent read the thery of poker then read that. Also sklankeys Holdem for
the advanced player is good too. Also you might want to buy a book for a
specific game or situation like harrintons tourny book.
(note I know I can't spell names worth a shit)

Use books as a starting point, not as textbooks that need to be memorized.
If you are an advanced players, then you should be very familiar with
most of the topics brought up in most of the books around, but you should
still make yourself familiar with TPFAP, Theory of Poker, Dan Harrington
on Holdem, and other books of this ilk. Use the concepts presented to
help facilitate your OWN concepts about the game. Remember, you won't
make very much money playing the way others tell you to.

perhaps you know of a book that covers every game
at an advanced level. I'd like to hear about it.
Super System 2.

heh, if you think that book covers all the games at an advanced level, i'd like
to play you. its all fairly intermediate. You may think its advanced because
you've never seen any other literature on most of the games.

Books to avoid include any of the Championship Series or Play Poker Like the
Pros. The advice offered is too rigid and in many cases just plain bad. You
can be sure that Phil and TJ don't play the way they tell you to (Phil's book is
particularly horrible). The books Gamble mentioned are useful because they tend
to help you learn the types of thinking process you need to undertake in your
poker decision making which you can apply to different situations. I would add
SS2 to his list - I think learning the fundamentals in a variety of games helps
your play in any one game, and most of the sections here are pretty good.

Middle Limit Hold'em, Ciaffone & Brier
Jennifer Harman's section on limit HE in SS2 is also very good. |
