Quote: | I'd say this is still cheating because it is doing something INHUMAN
like detecting spin rates or "super-accurately" counting cards or
exploiting RNG algorithms that a human ALONE could not do. Whereas
regular card counting is just using skill, these folks are using
mechanisms and computers to overcome the odds which is "passive
cheating" and I can see it being banned. I don't know if they should
be able to put folks in jail for it though. Banning and barring is
one
thing but jail is another.

Well, I wasn't suggesting using a computer. If you realize that every
time the dealer releases the ball in front of the zero that the same
group of numbers come up, I think any court in the country would have
trouble classifying this as cheating. |

If the wheel spins at a constant rate, at what point and how do they
stop the wheel so the ball can stop in a slot? if the wheel spins too
quickly the ball will get knocked around and won't be able to stop in a
slot, no?? |

MomeyLA:
In Europe, they will stop the wheel then reverse the direction of the
spin. The rate of spin can be quite variable.
Here in the US, most croupiers/dealers can scoop up the ball from a
spinning roulette wheel and give it a slight boost at the same time to
keep the rate of spin within a "comfortable" spin rate so that the ball
doesn't take too long to settle, and they can scoop up the ball quickly.
You don't need a computer to predict the strike, just the right wheel and
technique. It is easier to do than you think. But, it can carry alot of
variance/volatility along with it. A double zero wheel has a large enough
HA to make it a challenge to overcome.
They can also call, "No more bets!" earlier to foil wheel clockers.
I prefer DI and Craps. |

Regarding dealer signatures, the following is from a post made by a
dealer in South Lake Tahoe (at the time).
I've noticed a lot of posts about betting the sections, outside
bets, etc. ... This method is based on a "biased" wheel. In order
to maximize your probability of a win you are supposed to observe
what numbers hit in what sections and bet accordingly. I'm about to
burst a few bubbles here. I hate to break this news to you but, as
a dealer, I am trained to keep the game as random as possible. If I
notice I am hitting numbers in a certain section of the wheel, I am
supposed to change spin speed, wheel speed, ball size, timing of
when I spin, any or all of these variables. Some casinos have the
dealers vary the spin direction of the ball and/or wheel as well.
All of these factors insure the radomness [sic] of the game.

We're not looking at hundreds of revolutions per minute, alan! I have
not played roulette in decades but I would guess the wheel spins at
about 6 RPM. At that rate, and with big enough slots, gravity is
sufficient to allow the ball to land in a slot without having to stop
the wheel.
