Was at the Blue Chip casino in Michigan city and they have a new game
( deal) I have never heard of before called --Dealer surrendrs-
Basically if you have a 20 and the dealer has a 10 showing you can ask
the dealer to surrender and get half your back as wiinings.
As usual, there got to be a gimmick in there,
Harvey any comments please?

I'm not Harvey but I once knew a rabbit...
This "dealer surrenders" is an ages old scam that resurfaces once in awhile. If the player
lets his 20 play out against the dealer's TEN, he will have a positive expectation of 55.9%
By asking the dealer to surrender, the player's +expectation is only 50%. The player
is giving up over 10%. |

As has been mentioned before in this NG, this gimmick surfaces now and
again, and should be refused. The return, per $1 wagered, for a 10,10
against a dealer's 10 is
0.583 for a 1 deck game,
0.569 for a 2 deck game,
0.562 for a 4 deck game,
0.559 for a 6 deck game and
0.558 for a 8 deck game
Regardless of the number of decks in play, the wager is not worth it.
When this "dealer's surrender" occurs, the player is effectively
winning $0.500 per $1 wagered, which is less than the figures quoted.
Having said that, I would take the "dealer's surrender" if and only if
a) I was so down that I absolutely needed the cash or
b) I had a HUGE wager (more than 1/2 my bankroll).

I would also think with a True Count at about +3 it would be a good
bet, but not sure.

IIRC, about 7 years ago this was discussed at length either here or in the "Green Chip/
Black Chip" forums at BJ21.com. Depending on whether or not the player could force the
Dealer's surrender *before* the dealer checked for Blackjack, the break even point was a
TC of 2.5 - 3.5. One erudite poster who was counting Halves w/ a sidecount of Aces,
spoke highly of the dealer surrenders his TEN against player's 20 option. |
