Hazard is the ancestor to craps and my understanding in Regency, and
Victorian England it was played on a circular table with no markings or
layout like a modern craps table:

"In the centre of the room is fixed a substantial circular table,
immoveable to any power of pressure against it by the company who go to
play; a circle of inlaid white holly wood is formed in the middle of the
table of about four feet diameter, and a lamp is suspended immediately
over this ring. A man, designated the Groom Porter, is mounted on a
stool, with a stick in his hand, having a transverse piece of wood
affixed to its end, which is used by him to rake in the dice after
having been thrown out of the box by the caster" - Fraser's Magazine,
August 1833.

My question is with no markings on the table is anyone know how the
croupier kept track of players' bets? Was the circle in the centers of
the table used in a special way perhaps - say if your chips were
inside/outsite or on the edge of the circle?
