If a Pick-4 game is drawn 500 times then 2000 digits must have been
drawn. Thus each digit would ideally have come up 200 times. But
if that happened one could safely claim the process is rigged, since
there must be a statistical spread in frequencies around 200. But how
large a spread should one expect and when might one claim one or
more balls are not comming up at a random rate. In short, what
standard deviation should the process yield? Would it be 14?

Stig

I did the Occurrences for All USA Pick 4 at the beginning of the year along
with Pick 3 - summaries are there. I put a link for the full table for Pick
3 for a very short while. The Pick 4 Table is pretty large. I was thinking
of putting them into a little database for download - but with the increased
traffic I couldn't do it for nothing - and generally if you start charging a
dollar or so, it doesn't go over well even though it's only peanuts compared
to the time you've spent. So I put it on hold.

What I would like to hear from some of the Mathematical and Statistical
contributors here is the relevence of standard deviation in Lotto History
analysis. I've looked at it before - its not a problem doing it - but I just
can't bring myself to embrace it. I have an open mind.

How about a bit of grunt on the topic from the M & S heavies.

Regards
Colin
