I will monitor this contest as long as there are people interested in
playing. Here are the rules:

1) Everyone starts with a $5000 bankroll. If the bankroll reaches
zero, or you do not have enough left to make a legal play, with no
outstanding bets, you are out of the contest. You may not put more
money in action in a given day than your starting bankroll that day
(i.e. if you have $500 left you can't bet $500 on day games, win some
of them, and then use the winnings on night games. The contest monitor
does not want to have to be concerned with knowing when games ended).

2) Only regular season games and the All Star Game are part of the
contest.

3) Only money lines, totals, and run-lines are allowed. Some books
offer "reverse runlines" where you get the favorite +1.5 runs or the
dog -1.5 runs. These are NOT permitted. I do realize there are some
games that are close to a even money on the moneyline where one book
may have a different runline favorite than another; these are usually
obvious to the monitor and I will accept runlines with either team as
the favorite.

4) You may not make bets that oppose each other (both the over and
under on the same game; both the favorite and the dog in any
combination of money line and runline bets). You can place both a
runline and moneyline bet on either the favorite and the dog in the
same game if you wish.

5) To post your play, post it in a thread that at least contains the
words "RGS baseball contest". Cite the source of your line (online
sportsbook or real sports book). Honor system will be used. If
someone is suspicious of another contestant's line(s), and complains to
the monitor, I will try to investigate if I have time. Otherwise I
will assume everyone is posting honest lines and score them
accordingly.

6) The basic bet unit is $100. A bet that pays +100 or more will be
$100 to win $XXX (i.e. +150 will be $100 to win $150). The default for
a bet that pays -101 or less will be $XXX to win $100 (i.e. -150 will
be $150 to win $100). However I realize some people do not like to
wager significantly more on big favorites (such as -300). If you place
a wager that pays -101 or less you may specify any amount for the bet
between 100 and the default amount; if you do not specify I will score
it with the default amount. Example: if you play a -300 favorite, and
do not specify the default, you will be scored at $300 to win $100.
However, if you specify $150 you will be scored at $150 to win $50; if
you specify $100 you will be scored $100 to win $33 (all bets will be
rounded to the nearest full dollar amount).

7) You may play as many or as few bets as you wish on any day,
within the rules of the contest. You are not required to post plays on
any particular day.

Cool Once per day, if you wish, you may specify one of your bets as a
"Bet of the Day". The default amount for a Bet of the Day is $200 (or
to win $200 if betting a favorite). Rules about betting less than the
full amount if your Bet of the Day is a favorite apply (i.e. the
default for a -300 favorite Bet of the Day is $600 to win $200 but you
can specify less, down to $200, if you want, although it would be kind
of silly to specify $300 or less because you don't need to call it the
Bet of the Day to do that).

9) There are 26 weeks in the major league season. A week is defined
as Monday thru Sunday, with the exception that the April 3 Yankee/Red
Sox game is considered part of the April 4 - April 10 week. Each week,
there will be a weekly winner. The weekly winner is the person who
placed five or more bets that week and showed the greatest positive
profit. If no one placed five or more bets and showed a profit, there
will be no weekly winner. The weekly winner will receive a $250 bonus
to their balance when the week's final bets are scored.

10) Once per week, you may specify a Bet of the Week. The default
amount for a Bet of the Week is $300 (or to win $300 if betting a
favorite). Rules about betting less than the full amount if your Bet
of the Week is a favorite apply (i.e. the default for a -300 favorite
as Bet of the Week is $900 to win $300 but you can specify less, down
to $300, if you wish).

11) If you illegally specify a Bet of the Day or Bet of the Week, it
will be reduced to the next legal level. (Example: you have already
played your Bet of the Week and you post another bet as Bet of the
Week; in this case I will consider this game a Bet of the Day unless
you have already posted a BOTD that day; then I would score it as a
regular bet). Also, bets submitted will be read sequentially in your
posts and if you run out of money, bets beyond that point will not be
allowed. For example, if someone has $380 in their balance, and they
submit the following 3 bets: Yankees -250, Twins +110, and Orioles
+130, the last bet would not be scored because after the first two
there would only be $30 left in the balance which is not enough for a
legal bet.

12) Each month there will be a monthly winner. The monthly winner is
the person who placed at least 20 wagers that month and showed the
greatest profit. If no one placed at least 20 bets in a month and
showed a profit, there will be no monthly winner. Monthly winners will
receive a $500 bonus to their bankroll when the games from the last day
of the month are scored. Note that the MLB games of October 1 and
October 2 are considered September games for purposes of this contest.

13) At the end of the regular season, a regular season champion will
be declared. The regular season champion is the person who placed at
least 100 bets and showed the greatest profit. If no one placed at
least 100 bets and showed a profit, then the person with fewer than 100
bets that showed the most profit will be the champion. If no one
showed a profit, there will be no regular season champion. Anyone with
a positive bankroll will be allowed to participate in a postseason
contest, rules to be decided, during the playoffs and World Series. I
have 6 months to figure out how those rules work.

14) Normal sportsbook scoring rules are used for rain-shortened and
suspended games. Runlines and totals require that the full 9 innings
(or 8.5 with the home team leading) be played with a winner and a loser
or they are voided. Moneylines merely require that an official major
league game with a winner and loser is played. If a game is rained out
and played the next day with the same pitching matchup, you must
re-post your bet the next day, in the next day's thread, if you still
want it. If a Bet of the Week is rained out you may post another Bet
of the Week on a subsequent day that week.

15) Pitching changes: you may choose to specify one or both pitchers
when you post your play. If specified pitchers do not go, your play is
void. You can specify just the pitcher for the team you are betting
on, just the pitcher for the team you are betting against, or both. If
you do not specify a pitcher, your bet WILL have action if there is a
pitching change, UNLESS you make a post after the pitching change has
occurred but before the game starts saying you want to void the bet. If
a bet has been voided, you may then place another bet on the game if
you wish.

Example 1: Contestant posts "Yankees -150 vs Red Sox (Mussina vs
Schilling), Canbet". If there is a pitching change for either team,
the bet is voided. The contestant may place another wager on the game
before game time, after the pitching change, if he wishes.

Example 2: Contestant posts "Yankees -150 vs Red Sox (Mussina),
Canbet". This bet will only be automatically voided by a Yankee
pitching change before gametime. If the Red Sox change pitchers and
the contestant wants to void his bet, he must explicitly post that he
wants the bet voided after the pitching change has been announced but
before gametime. Once the bet has been voided, either automatically on
a Yankee pitching change or by a contestant post after a Red Sox
pitching change, the contestant may post another play on the game
before game time, if he wishes.

Example 3: Contestant posts "Yankees -150 vs Red Sox, Canbet". This
bet will NOT be automatically voided by any pitching change. If there
is a pitching change and the contestant wants to void his bet, he must
explicitly post that he wants the bet voided after the pitching change
has been announced but before gametime. Once he has done so, he may
post another play on the
game before game time, if he wishes.

NOTE: You may also declare up front that all your bets for the
season will have action only if the listed pitchers at the time of the
bet go. Once you do this, you no longer have to specify the pitcher's
name (but you can still explicitly specify that some bets are action if
you want on a bet by bet basis).

16) I will make an attempt to update the scoreboard for the contest
at least once every three days during the season. Hopefully it will be
nearly daily except for occasional busy times.

17) Rules questions, scoring corrections, or any other comments can
be sent to me at [email protected].

1Cool The rules will be reposted approximately once a week during the
season.
