|
|
I was deep into a $100 buy-in MTT tourney today which started with several
hundred players.
It was down to 18 players, and I picked up KQs on the button in our 9-handed
table. I had the largest stack on the table. MP (second largest stack) limped, I
called. SB folded.
Flop came K-8-3 rainbow. BB checked, MP bet half pot. I min-raised figuring I
had the best kicker in the unraised pot. Long story short, MP had AKo - and
seriously crippled my stack after bets on 4th and 5th streets (blanks fell on
both streets) which I also called like an idiot. I felt sick - the monetary loss
due to this bone-headed play was so huge.
KQs sucks as a TPTK hand, it is a piece of junk. I'm an idiot for not being able
to fold that junk when the turn bet came.
That was cathartic, kind of! :)

More times than not your kicker will be good in an unraised pot.

I agree.
I hate that hand especially now that people are limping with AK more frequently.

Yep, I see quite a bit of limping with AK in both cash games and tourneys
online.

If your opponent has a K then I'd guess you're safe only 1/3 - 1/2 the time.
AK you lose. KQ (not likely) you split. KJ you win (would he play this?).
I assume other Kx hands aren't very likely. Depending on your opponent you
have to figure out if he'd limp with AK. If so then you better be careful
especially after he made a decent sized bet and then called your reraise.
I can't resist mentioning that KQ on a K83 flop isn't a TPTK hand...although
your opponent's AK was.
